The Milman Parry Songs On-Line pages contain information on songs
in the Collection, links to images of Manuscript and Typescript
pages, and links to audio files of the songs in RealAudio format.
Not all songs have image and sound files available, but these
pages will be updated as new links are added (only
songs with active links currently have such files).
As a result of the Milman Parry Collection's recent digitalization
initiative, the text and audio of a number of songs are now available
in digital format. The digitalization project includes material
from two major collections contained within the general framework
of the Milman Parry Collection of Oral Literature (MPCOL): the Milman
Parry Collection proper, consisting of materials collected by Parry
in the years 1933-35, and the Albert B. Lord Collection, assembled
by Lord in 1950-51.
The links in the Milman Parry Songs On-Line pages (see box at right)
provide access to indexed lists of all songs which have been or
are scheduled to be reformatted. (As of March 2006 reformatting
is still in progress.) You can also access digital materials through
the Collection
Database. (Use the “Limit by” buttons to restrict
your search to items that have digital texts or audio.)
Some songs are represented by both digital text (manuscript or
typescript) and audio, others by only one format. Links to associated
digital objects are included in the indexed lists.
Audio files are delivered in RealAudio format. Download
the latest player from Real.com.

New materials are being added to the site continuously,
so check back here often.
The Digitization Initiative
Over 200 texts have been selected for digitalization from the roughly
12,500 individual items collected by Milman Parry during his 1933-35
expedition. The selection was based on Albert Lord's 1960 classic
The Singer of Tales (2nd ed. 2000), which remains the most
widely known presentation of the MPCOL and its contents. Every song
cited by Lord or referenced in notes will be included in the digitalization
project. Other songs will be included as funding permits.
